Understanding HVAC Guidelines

Once I purchased my first home, I realized that I needed to do my part in caring for my home appliances. In addition to reading the user manuals for my kitchen appliances and state-of-the-art plumbing system, I realized that I also needed to do a little research about HVAC. Because I had no experience with HVAC systems, I called out a professional to teach me a thing or two. It was fascinating to talk with him, and I was able to take notes about all kinds of important topics, such as maintenance, troubleshooting, and even shopping for a new system. This blog is all about understanding HVAC guidelines.

4 Pool Maintenance Tips to Consider Before Winter Weather Arrives

Marilou Girard

If you have invested in an enclosure and heating for your pool, you probably want to enjoy it more during cooler weather. This also means that you are going to need to keep up with maintenance throughout the year. As you might have guessed, the pool maintenance during winter is a little different than what needs to be done during summer. The following tips will help you with maintenance to enjoy your pool all year:

Add a Treatment for Cold Temperatures

During the winter months, the water in your pool is vulnerable to cold weather when the heater is not on or quits working. Therefore, you want to make sure that you add a winter treatment to the water as soon as the temperatures start to get cooler. This will prevent the water from freezing and causing damage to your pool and equipment.

Inspect Plumbing and Pool Equipment for Leaks

It is also important to inspect the plumbing of your pool and its equipment before the winter weather. You will want to repair any leaks or other problems that could get worse when the temperatures dip below freezing during the winter months. You may want to insulate pipes that are exposed to ensure they do not get damaged when temperatures get colder.

Test the Pool Heating System for Problems & Quickly Do Any Necessary Repairs

The most important maintenance to do before winter is inspecting the heater. Turn it on to make sure that it is working and inspect the wiring and safety switches to make sure that the system is working as it should. If you need to repair the pool heater, have repairs done before the cold weather arrives.

Continue Testing and Treating the Water Throughout Winter

While the chlorine in water evaporates faster during the hot summer weather, it still needs to be checked during the winter months. Make sure to check the chlorine and PH levels of the water throughout winter to prevent problems with algae blooms and cloudy water during the cold winter weather. Halfway through winter, you may also want to add a winter water treatment to your pool again to ensure cold temperatures do not cause problems.

A good maintenance routine will ensure your heated or enclosed pool is ready to use year-round. If you need help with maintenance or repairs for the winter months, contact a local emergency plumber for more help.
